1969 “Football War” or “100 Hour War” with El Salvador

The CIA trained Battalion 316 of the Honduras military, which in turn carried out political assassinations and kidnappings from about 1980-1992.
Honduras received support from the U.S. and fascist Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, to counter the growing left wing threats from Nicaragua and El Salvador.

Minor dispute with El Salvador over Conejo Island. Claimed by both nations.

Fuerza Aerea Honduras (FAH)

The Honduras Air Force was built up during the 1980's to counter the threats coming from the Civil Wars being fought in El Salvador and Nicaragua. The FAH began to downsize after the end of hostilities in the 1990's.

Operates form 4 air bases at Tegucigalpa, Comayagua, San Pedro Sula, and La Ceiba. # stations at Cantacamas, Alto Aguan (bombing range), and Puerto Lempira. Radar station at La Mole peak.
