Ecuador

Ecuador
Capital: Quito
Includes the Galapagos Islands

Fought the 1995 Cenepa War against Peru in a disputed border area in the Cordillera de Condor area. The conflict ended in a cease fire.

Argentina gave Ecuador 6.500 tons of rifles, artillery pieces, anti-tank rockets and ammunition during Ecuadors war with Peru in 1995.

In 2008, a cross border Columbia military raid into Ecuador targeting FARC guerrilla forces greatly strained relations between the two nations.

30 SEP 10- Police in Ecuador riot after the cancellation of bonuses and promotions by the government. When the president of Ecuador, Raphael Correa, came to negotiate with the rioting national police he was attacked with tear gas. His body guards gave him a gas mask and took him to the hospital. The police surrounded the hospital and held up the president and his bodyguards at the hospital until the military came to the rescue of the president. After the president was rescued, a week long state of emergency was declared. Supporters came out in the thousands to rally with the president. He praised his bodyguards for protecting him throughout the entire ordeal. He also praised the military and the people of Ecuador for their patriotism and loyalty during the crisis. People actually came out in the thousands throughout South America in support of President Correa.
